Review Time
I had some DNS issues that could only be resolved by admins at MelbIT (there were some backend issues that meant I wasn't able to reassign my domain to another company where my website is hosted). It took 2 attempts (firstly by using an interim A & CNAME pointing method) - and I was told that I'd be informed when the glitch causing the reassignment to not stick would be fixed. Didn't hear anything back. My second attempt a few days later was also unsuccessful (doing it myself...) - so MelbIT were able to fix it manually from their side - and it's now all good. 5 stars for the second service - it was very easy. One star off for nil contact / follow up from my first interaction. Very happy with MelbIT overall though...
The support is excellent, but domain name registration is expensive compared other companies. I tansferred my domain out when I was told I needed to add my abn to my domain registration and it would cost $250 to do that ! It was free for 12 months to transfer my domain to GoDaddy.
I was unaware of an expired domain name causing our business website to disappear. Contacted support with grave fears of having lost everything. Was so impressed with customer support (Aga) providing such professional and polite help. In very little time resolved my error and had everything up and running again. Thank you so much MelbIT!!
I paid $19.90 for a Domain Backorder product from MelbourneIT in April 2024 for a .com.au domain I thought would become available sometime mid-May. MelbourneIT was the current registrar for the domain even though the current owner breached auDA's domain registration requirements (the owner's ABN was cancelled five years ago). I won a dispute with auDA and the previous registration was cancelled.The Domain Backorder confirmation email says, "We will regularly review the status and availability of your backordered domain and if it becomes available, we will attempt to register it for you straight away."But it also says, "Please note, that this is not for the registration of the domain name. Just the backorder service, for which we will attempt to register the domain name on your behalf as soon as it becomes available."So it's clear as mud: will MelbourneIT register the domain for me when it becomes available or not?In any case, I never received any notification. I visited the MelbourneIT site on 14 May and noticed it was available to purchase for $77/yr.Instead I purchased the domain from another registrar for $50 for FIVE years.According to the support rep I spoke to, MelbourneIT's Domain Backorder service is not guranteed to notify you when the domain becomes available, does not attempt to register the domain for you, did not notify me, and is non-refundable.
