Accountable has saved me many headaches caused by the insanely complicated German tax system. It's easy to use, and you can keep track of your tax burden throughout the year. I can also use it to file my VAT returns. I'm not German and even though my language level is good, it's not good enough to understand the ins and outs of German taxes. The support is also fast, but not always accurate, but I would get outside professional advice if I ever had a serious query.There are some downsides for me. At 30 euros a month (they recently tried to charge me more until I complained) it's not the cheapest program. And when I first signed up I could claim the VAT back as they told me it was based in Germany. Now, every invoice is a reverse charge, so I have to pay the additional VAT on this cost every month. If one of the cheaper programs were simpler I would switch. I'm a freelance artist and I teach part-time, so I have two tax numbers and a VAT number. For now, Accountable is only good for one tax number per person, so if I want to manage all my taxes for every job, I need to pay for a second account. That's too much, so I still have to file my taxes to the Finanzamt for one job, using the Elster forms.
