It was our first time booking through Airbnb. We had rented an apartment in Milan from November 6th, 2025 to November 8th, 2025. The host had taken a picture of the toilet on the day we arrived – November 6th – where everything looked perfectly fine. We checked out on November 8th at 10 AM, and after our stay, a cleaning crew came to clean the apartment. According to the host, it was the cleaning staff who discovered that there was a problem with the toilet.Later that same day, we received a message from the host claiming that the toilet was clogged and that chemicals and metal objects had been used, allegedly scratching the toilet. If we had experienced any issues with the toilet during our stay, we would of course have contacted the host immediately, as it is an essential part of any accommodation. We were extremely careful and followed all the instructions the host provided. It feels completely unreasonable that we are now facing a bill of 305 EUR – especially when the host claims to have “documentation.” As mentioned, a cleaning crew entered the apartment after our stay, and it seems far more likely that they used cleaning chemicals or perhaps poured dirty water into the toilet, which could have caused the blockage. This is also quite evident in the video the host sent. We were on holiday and obviously had no interest in damaging a toilet. This has been a really unpleasant experience for us, and I want to warn others: If you book through Airbnb, make sure to take photos of the entire apartment upon arrival – otherwise you risk being scammed, just like we were.
