I've been a host with them for over five years now, and I've definitely learned a lot along the way! One thing I’ve noticed is that the focus often seems to be on the guests. For instance, there was a situation where a pump broke down due to unforeseen circumstances, and the guidelines they have—what they call "community standards"—were used to navigate that challenge. I had a guest who decided to take off his trousers and insisted on staying, even when I needed to assess the situation because of a burst pipe caused by the dry season. Although Airbnb offered him the option to relocate, he felt there wasn't enough communication from their side.In the end, I made the decision to cancel his reservation, which I felt was the right choice. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first bump in the road I've faced. During Covid, I had a guest who left quite a mess, and while I received only $80 in compensation, I was faced with potential repercussions myself. Sometimes it feels like the fees can be quite high as well!Overall, while there have been challenges, I still find hosting to be a rewarding experience!
