I loved my time as a student in AP! My tutors were Charlotte and Sebastian, Charlotte for the personal statement, portfolio, and the drawing task, and Sebastian for interviews!My first session with Charlotte included establishing my current artwork, which was only two-dimensional, discussing the themes present within my work, and talking about how I can adapt these ideas into spatial/three-dimensional projects. From then on we set tasks for me to complete between sessions, and reviewed my progress and talked about next steps within the sessions. These were highly helpful as I feel that my creative process and creative development as a whole was fostered and strengthened, as through this I learnt about many different methods on developing projects, and I'll definitely take these lessons into any future work I do! Charlotte took care into understanding my core interests and strengths, even encouraging me to develop a crochet model inspired by decay and growth in nature, as crochet is something I love doing as part of my hobbies, thus helping me create a highly personal, developed, and multi-media portfolio! This culminated in sessions where we complied my portfolios for my universities, where she introduced me to the process of creating portfolios, the importance of formatting, white space, hierarchies in text, how to properly scan in images, etc. Not only was this useful for my portfolio submissions but it will be for my university portfolios! For the drawing task, she showed me examples of successful sketches, introducing me to spatial, expressive work, and how to present concepts of time within my work - I find that my drawing task response was quite successful due to these tips!For interview prep, Sebastian and I did multiple rounds of presenting my portfolio, so when it came to my interviews I was confident in talking about my work. He pushed me to open up conversations more, as I'd previously give quite closed answers, but when it came to interview, I was able to use the skills he taught me in guiding the conversation to where I wanted it to be! He was very encouraging and made me feel confident about myself in the process too, as interviews were something I have never done before. He got to know me as a person and tailored the interview preparation sessions to me, and also sent great example interviews between sessions, which gave me further clarity on the best ways to conduct interviews.AP has a wealth of resources, from example successful portfolios, to personal statement and portfolio templates, and the tutors have so so much knowledge and experience! I'm so happy to say that I've received an offer from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, which has been a big big dream of mine. I honestly could not have done it without their help and guidance! I am so grateful for both Charlotte and Sebastian.
