I really wish I’d checked the negative reviews before using ASR Gearbox Repairs. From the start, I feel I was completely misled. Their website and advertising give the impression that they have local garages and provide a straightforward, professional service. In reality, they farm the work out to garages that could be miles away — in my case, my car was taken a long distance without me being told where it was. They charged a high towing fee, and I was shocked at how expensive the repair quote was — almost double what I later found from a reputable local garage. When I said I couldn’t afford it, they offered me just £100 for my car, which is in good body condition with low mileage. That made me feel taken advantage of. When I decided not to go ahead with the very high quote or sell them my car, I asked where my car was so that I could arrange for it to be collected. However, they wouldn’t tell me where it was until I paid them — it honestly felt like my car was being held to ransom. They then emailed to say that if I didn’t pay that same day, they would start charging me for storage fees. However, when my recovery driver arrived to collect the car, it wasn’t even in a garage — it was parked on a public side street. They were threatening to charge me to “store” my own car on a public road, which is blatantly dishonest. I later discovered that the garage they used was miles away and had no real connection to ASR (other than one they obviously give work to). To save money, I arranged my own recovery and repairs elsewhere, which ended up costing almost half as much as ASR’s quote. The entire experience left me feeling deceived, stressed, and out of pocket. If I’d known how they operate, I would never have handed over my car. My advice is to avoid ASR Gearbox Repairs completely and go directly to a genuine local garage and towing company. It could save you thousands of pounds and a great deal of frustration.
