I wish there was a zero star for Assura. Even if it's often the cheapest insurance available, you definitely "get what you pay for" in other words, pay peanuts, you get peanuts. I had been with them for YEARS but got frustrated with their payment/billing system - SO complicated, so this year, I switched to SWICA who were offering the same service at the same price. SWICA (for some unknown reason) did not cover me until 1st February 2025 (instead of 1st January as is normal). They said this was because Assura had not "released" me from their insurance (nonsense excuse). Assura then sent me a note on 23rd January 2025 requesting payment for January PLUS a CHF30 late payment fee. They said they had "written" to me in January BUT via their website (Espace Client - why would I check if I was of the opinion that I was no longer insured with them?????). SNEAKY!I wrote to them (sent recommande) immediately saying that I assumed I was no longer insured with them, as I had received no correspondence since November 2025 (when I cancelled my insurance with them), and my Assura Card had expired 31st December 2024. Plus my doctor advised that I "delay" any doctor visits until my new card came through in February from SWICA. On receiving my registered letter, Assura contacted me 1st May to advise that "it was SWICA's fault" for not insuring me from January 2025, and therefore I still had to pay the January premium from Assura. For absolutely NO service. They advised that (as they're so kind and I was a long standing customer) that they would waive the CHF30 late payment fee. Complete charlatons.
