To describe Author’s Book Publishing as rank amateurs would be an insult to rank amateurs. The publishing of my first book was supposed to be a celebratory event, instead it was one of the most demoralizing, degrading experiences of my life, thanks to their incompetence and greed. I have started a new book, which will be published elsewhere, and the first chapter is devoted entirely to my experience with this sorry-ass company. It is written as a comedy, although the experience was decidedly un-funny.Idiotic editing, being pressured every step of the way to buy this or that whiz-bang product, pitiful compensation, weekly disasters bringing the book to market…I could go on and on.You will see glowing reviews of Author’s. I did, and believed them. Now, after seeing how they operate up close, I don’t believe them as far as I can throw them.Do yourself a favor and avoid Author’s Book Publishing at all costs. Find somebody, anybody, else to publish your book. Like me, you probably poured blood, sweat and tears into your work…don’t let these clowns ruin your experience.Trustpilot asked that I give additional details...--I spent more time correcting their editing mistakes then fixing my own. An example: I wrote a passage describing my grandmother as "little bitty". They changed it to "a little biddy".--I was upsold repeatedly, always at the last minute, after paying $1800, which I thought covered everything, then another $990. In total they wanted to charge me another $7000 for marketing, etc...--They botched the submission of my book. I insisted it be in color because of pictures, and they submitted it as black and white...friends and family who bought it got black and white.--I was on track to PAY close to $3 per book I sold at one point.--I earn .75 cents per paperback. I know the printing cost...where does the other $7 go? I asked repeatedly and never got an answer.--I called the salesman who signed my up to complain and he never returned my call. Class act there.--They do not occupy the NY location they list on their website. When you call their main number you get a foreign voice who cannot be heard over the din behind them. Try calling the number they list. --I was never told that I would have to pay extra for the hardcover dust jacket. Only after I received the 10 copies I ordered did I know it would be without. They wanted to charge me another $1800 for a Kirkus review and book jacket (a Kirkus review cost around $500 and the book jacket $200ish). --10 stellar reviews of my book appeared out of blue on Amazon. I would love to take credit for them but they are completely bogus, AI-generated, I assume. Two of them mention what great "fiction" it is; it is plainly non-fiction. I therefore doubt every glowing review there is about the company.--To have my first book published without a sleeve feels like a crime, a personal tragedy. It screams "amateur".I could give 20 more examples. I stand by my review...
