Axios is a “news site” that is primarily an aggregator based on the peculiar views of its very few top founders and editors. The bounce rate is a sky high 74.5%. The Alexa ranking in May, 2020 was 5,724. Not too many readers or followers here. Those that open it quickly decide it is not for them and leave. Today, for example, after the tear gassing peaceful protesters in front of the White House, Axios ran a story on its cover about the business of tear gas. On this solemn day, business? really? An odd selection indeed. The editors seem to be in the business of editing to protect their advertisers. Not too many articles criticizing major advertisers such as Morgan Stanley. It is clear these guys are here for a financial score. Not journalism. The slant is hidden but pretty clear. It bleeds a little red. The only major journalist who breaks stories and has a following seems to be Jonathan Swan, a well known carrier of Trump’s intentional “leaks”. Where are the other major writers? The world is currently filled with daily news summaries from organizations large and small. With their narrow approach, the site will always be limited, and have a high bounce rate. When you open it who knows what you will get. But their budget might balance. As a reader, you are better off just going to broader news site where you find your stories of interest each day.
