This product picks up all sizes of pine cones!I purchased one designed to pick up smaller cones and it has catch box with 1/2" x 1" open screening.I was surprised by how large the diameter of the roller is. Also, I initially found it unusual to see the cones on the wheel and to have them dumped in front as most lawn sweeps and dethachers have the pickup bag in the rear. Since the cones are grabbed and not whacked into the bag, one can move at any speed or stop and start without affecting the pick up.I do however have a few challenges!1. I need to pick up pine cones off a driveway made of 1/2" gravel. This device unfortunately does pick up gravel. Since my recycler is expecting tree products, I have to manually remove the gravel either while its on the wheel or while its in the bag.A future design might include a space, with an adjustable opening for the gravel to fall out before entering the catch bag. Same for accidentally picking up rocks.2. The device is on the heavy side. Yes, I understand the desire to be durable, but basket could be made much lighter, the wheel could be made a little smaller and the handle could be made out of plastic on the top section and attached with a smaller diameter bolt.3. The device does miss picking up pine cones that are on an uneven surface. Its performance could be improved by using a softer duramater plastic for the wheel spokes, so that like a soft tire the wheel would have a larger footprint and better adapt to uneven surfaces. The spoke tips would need to be firmer to prevent them from wearing out when used on paved/concrete surfaces.
