I undertook this course to help me on my journey of self healing, I sadly lost two dear friends to suicide many years ago, I also encountered many incidents of self-harm and suicide during my time working as a prison officer. The result of both of these experiences and others during my life, have left me battling a deep depression for a long time, and also lead to me facing my own existential crisis. This course has helped me gain valuable insight, understanding and perspective on this very personal topic. The empathy I received from my marker has helped me significantly. The course has helped me understand that I didn't receive the support I needed at the time which contributed significantly to my battles with depression over the years. At the start of the course I hoped it would have a cathartic affect, and I have not been disappointed. It has helped me realise that I have potentially been suffering from Persistant Complex Bereavement Disorder, which has helped me gain perspective on where the dark clouds come from, it has helped me explore my suppressed emotions and eased the misplaced feelings of guilt I have carried for far too long. I feel that I am in a much better place emotionally moving forwards, and would highly recommend this course to other people sadly affected by suicide bereavement.
