Following a number of conversations with Beaver Log Cabins personnel during which I stressed the importance of a light-filled room, we bought the Whitegate cabin from the website for €6,500. The cabin delivered is NOT the Whitegate pictured on the website. The windows which accompanied it were 20cm longer than the window outlets. A technical person from Beaver told us we had received an earlier model of the cabin with windows from a later cabin (neither of which corresponded to the photo on the website). The Beaver owner insisted that cutting out larger holes for the windows was the only solution. We felt the cabin should be replaced it wan’t the one we had ordered. Our builder believed cutting out the cabin walls to facilitate the larger windows might weaken the structure and was reluctant to do so. The Beaver owner did not accept that adjusting the structure was a problem. We had to buy more timber to reinforce the window surroundings and the procedure took a number of hours’ labour. We were offered €250 towards this expense.More importantly, he did not accept that this was not the cabin we had ordered and insisted that the cabin plans are updated constantly. I sent him photos of the cabin on the website and ours with the narrower windows which meant that we were not getting the light-filled room we had ordered. He refused to accept that there was any problem with this. Before purchasing, the costs to be incurred in installation were all downplayed. For example, that moving the materials from the front garden could be done in “20 to 30 minutes” by 2 men (a 6X3 metre 75cm high structure had been left on the pavement outside our house causing a serious public safety risk). It took 2 builders over 2.5 hours to move it. The construction took 2 tradesmen (overseen by a builder) 50 hours to complete. The paint cost €647from Beaver Log Cabins and we needed to purchase more. It took 100 hours to prepare, treat and paint the cabin (done by us with the help of family so no cost). The final cost of the cabin, which is NOT the one pictured on the website and ordered is over €12,000.I believe we have a strong case for legal action against Beaver Log Cabins. However, we are retired and feel beaten down after our experiences with them and could not face any additional stress.
