Visited the Bella Italia in Southampton and left thoroughly underwhelmed. Despite the restaurant being almost empty, we had to wait to be seated. Staff informed us straight away that they were out of ribs and chicken Caesar salad, pretty surprising given how quiet it was.I wanted to order the same tortellini dish as my friend (beef in red wine), but was told they only had one portion left. I ended up settling for the carbonara with added pulled chicken, which turned out to be a mistake. The portion was tiny, the sauce was watery and flavourless, and the added chicken was just a few dry scraps tossed on top. It felt no better than an Iceland microwave meal. The whole place lacked atmosphere, no music, no energy, no warmth and it seemed like the staff were just going through the motions. The only saving grace was that the pint was cold.Wonāt be returning. Chains like this really need to decide whether they want to offer a decent dining experience or just limp along serving reheated food with no soul.
