Don't think about it, just do it. The process is ridiculously simple and so cost effective compared to BMW subscriptions.I installed CarPlay on our 2018 X3 and it took maybe 10 minutes. The guys at Bimmer answered my initial questions promptly, the update files were sent through in minutes and everything worked as described. No ongoing subscriptions fees either :)
