That was the goal over 30 years ago of our founder Robert Ecsedy. His vision, determination and ingenuity launched and propelled Bobbex to being recognized today as the leader in safe and effective animal repellents.
Bobbex Overview: A Passioned Beginning
In the late 1980s, Robert “Bob” Ecsedy (last name pronounced X-City, and known as “Bob-X” to his friends) lived in Newtown, Connecticut and worked in sales. A graduate of the University of Bridgeport with a degree in chemistry, Bob represented various chemical companies in support of Northeast manufacturing. Bob’s personal interests centered around horticulture and gardening, serving for several years as the President of the Fairfield Horticultural Society.
Once retired, Bob Ecsedy dedicated himself even further to his gardening passion, planting and managing a large garden with over 300 tomato plants. Bob used a slurry of fish products as a “more natural” fertilizer for his crops. He noticed that after using his unique mixture, deer tended to avoid eating the fertilized plants. At that moment, the “seeds for sowing a new product” were planted!
Combining his chemistry background and horticultural experience, Bob began passionately tinkered with the formulation as he tested a number of changes and variations to improve repellency and longevity. Soon his formula was perfected, and Bob began offering the mixture to friends and associates for trial and comment. This included local garden centers where he took his product for a professional and unbiased assessment.
The results were conclusive and unanimous: Robert “Bob” Ecsedy’s Deer Repellent REALLY WORKED! And with that, “Bob-X” launched Bobbex!

Bob Ecsedy’s success in creating a product to keep deer away from plants was just the beginning for Bobbex Inc. Achievement of this goal was recently confirmed through an independent study performed by the State of Connecticut Department of Forestry and Horticulture.
