Our experience with Brent’s SEN department has been extremely disappointing and stressful.Over a number of years, communication has been poor, delayed, and unclear. As a parent of a child with an EHCP, I have repeatedly had to chase basic information and decisions that should be handled proactively by the local authority. Most recently, a school offered my child a placement. The school later informed me that they were advised by the SEN department to retract the offer based on needs as this was never a discussion with school and myself. The local authority did not attend the meeting where this was discussed, yet influenced the outcome and hide behind the school. No clear written explanation or lawful basis for this decision was provided. This lack of transparency and accountability directly impacts children with additional needs and causes unnecessary distress to families. Parents should not have to fight for support that is a legal entitlement. Brent needs to improve its communication, attendance at meetings, and decision-making processes so children are not disadvantaged and not another statistics and they are failing children !!
