I went into Brown Thomas today in Cork with my grandmother and my cousin. I wanted to show them the foundation I wanted for my upcoming 19th birthday. A lady working there comes over and asks do I need any help, I let her know I am interested in this foundation, and she then proceeds to tell me that, that foundation is a really good choice especially because I’m “pregnant” and it’s really soft on the skin. I was shocked and embarrassed as I am not pregnant and could not believe she had assumed that. I was so upset, as I am already self conscious over my weight, and I just did not need to hear that. We reported it to a lovely, kind lady named Niamh and she was extremely helpful. She went down and she spoke to the lady and let us know that she was going to take action. She was so kind and helpful and she really made me feel so much better. As we were leaving, we looked over and the same rude lady was staring at me and chatting to a co worker, which I assume was about me. Overall, I am really upset about my experience here today besides from Niamh. The unnecessary assumption from this Lady wasn’t acceptable in any way.Another thing I would like to add is that foundation, and makeup in general has absolutely no correlation with being pregnant and the comment wasn’t helpful in any way. Just completely harmful & unnecessary. I truly hope accountability is taken and this woman doesn’t make anymore harmful assumptions like that ever again.
