Following an evening out, a friend and I returned home, to find Cadent Gas had been called by a member of the public, who reported a very strong smell of gas on Keighley Road, Colne. The team were already digging up an area where they believed the gas to be coming from, despite it being around 10pm, cold, dark and raining. They immediately came to speak to us and requested we open all our doors and windows, as they had put a probe through the letter box, before we got home and the emissions were higher than normal. The guys continued the monitoring and at 11.30pm, we were told that they would be here with us all night. They explained that every 45 minutes, they would come inside our property and test the emissions, for our safety. They told us to go to bed and they would try not wake us during their checks. By morning the shifts had changed and we learnt that Cadent didn’t leave the site until 2.30am, but guys were still around for the remainder of the night doing their checks and we could now have our gas supply turned back on. By 10/11am, work began again to repair the gas leak, which was directly opposite our property. The emission checks continued throughout the day until 3pm time when they came to tell us the emission readings were now acceptable and they would be leaving. We were told they will return again tomorrow to ensure there was no further leakage. I have to say, both me and my friend, felt very safe and in no danger as the team kept us reassured all day. Well done Cadent, you have a team you should be proud of and thank you for keeping us all safe too.
