We have been searching tirelessly for good nonstick pots and pans that are long-lasting, contain less PFAs, and sustainable. As a gift from a friend, we received a set (4 pots/pans, magnetic holder, pot holder) as a gift this month.
The pros:
1. Appearance.
These are beautiful to look at. We got the sage green color and they are stunning (glossy sheen).
2. Weight/Handling.
The pans themselves are also lightweight yet still maintain a quality feeling to them.
The cons:
1. Dents, Nicks, Scratches on colored coating.
Upon opening the box, we noticed many dings and nicks in the outer coating (green paint) of each pot and pan. They were frequent denting in the surface, catching on the light when turned and rotated, and distorted the overall sheen of this brand new product.
2. Burned Residue despite correct usage.
The smaller saucepan burned immediately upon first use, completely nullifying the nonstick quality with a black crust surrounding the inner rim. We followed proper protocol when using these pans (no prolonged high heat, no metal to scratch/damage the inner coating). This has not happened to the other pots or pans we have tried to use, as we attempted to see if this was simply user-error or a manufacturer fault. In this case, the manufacturing of this pan was suspect and was the only item in the pack of 4 that had this issue.
3. Washing.
We tried countless times to remove the crust/residue from the smaller saucepan after following proper instructions for cleaning per Caraway’s website. None of them were successful in removing the stain. Again, this is only an issue with the smaller saucepan but a devastating one nonetheless as it’s the most convenient size.
4. Usability after a stain.
The smaller saucepan is unusable now. After using it once while following Caraway’s instructions for proper use, care, and storage, it is no longer nonstick. The crust remains on the grey inside of the pan and causes everything to stick to it now. We haven’t used it past a second time because the nonstick ability is completed nullified. Using a liberal amount of oil will not even prevent sticking, and to limit future burning, we have shelved it.
We are hoping to replace it because at this price point with the luxury, respectable reputation of this company, we were excited for better.
