"Choose Your Horizon" offered a compelling program of support and the drug naltrexone. The process to apply was simple. I knew that I drank too much. I love the taste of good scotch. For reasons that are personal, I won't reveal why I drank so much, but after my wife and friends told me that I did drink too much, the "Choose your Horizon" program looked good. Just as predicted, once I started taking Naltrexone, I was experienced some significant nausea. But my thirst for alcohol was dramatically reduced. My goal was never to stop drinking - I am very social and as I said, I love the taste of good single malt scotch. But the effect of naltrexone is significant. It does reduce and curb the desire to drink. But as a "subscriber" to the therapy, you have to want to change your habits. Without the support of the team at CYH, and my strong desire to change my habits, the drug alone is not enough. You have to want to drink less or not at all. The biggest motivator for me was my improved sleep!!! I am very active and don't end any day without a lot of exercise, so good sleep is important to me. Drinking less or sometimes not at all means I sleep really well. Bottom line: my daily drinking volume is much less, my personal relationships are better and I am getting much better rest. But! It takes a commitment to change for the therapy to work. I feel good knowing that naltrexone helps me and I will continue to take it.
