We are a small independent gym that placed a significant order with Compound Fitness late last year, including:
• Custom turf
• Four curved treadmills
• An abductor/adductor machine
• Accessory items
The order was paid according to the payment schedule requested by Compound Fitness, with most items paid in full by early November. We were originally given a 10-week timeline, that aligned with a publicly announced gym expansion and opening date with time to install.
Unfortunately, the experience since has been extremely disappointing, frustrating, and very stressful for a small business with everything invested in its growth.
Accessory Items
Some accessory items were delivered partially. This was not disclosed to us at the time of delivery and was only discovered over a month later once all boxes were opened during fit-out.
We have since been informed those items are out of stock with no confirmed replacement timeline. A refund has been offered but has not yet been delivered.
Custom Turf & Abductor Machine
The agreed timeframe for the custom turf (which also included the abductor machine) was late December / early January.
We are now being told expected delivery is “sometime in March.”
We have requested a vessel name and voyage number in order to independently confirm shipment through our customs broker. We have not received that information.
Curved Treadmills
The four curved treadmills are still outstanding now in late February.
They were still outstanding in early February when we were informed they were sourcing a new supplier. We had purchased a specific product, and being told months later that a new supplier was being sourced significantly reduced our confidence in both the product being as ordered and the delivery timeline.
We immediately requested a refund rather than accept a product from a newly sourced supplier. We were told this would be issued. We are still waiting, with no confirmed timeline.
Communication
We were eventually contacted via email addressing many of our concerns. We were offered an explanation for recent poor communication, acknowledgement of our position, confirmation that a refund would be processed, confirmation we would be provided a vessel number for the turf shipment, and confirmation that a refund would be issued for the missing accessory items.
Since that communication, multiple follow-up emails have gone unanswered. There is currently no known timeline for when refunds will be processed.
For a small studio that has reinvested heavily into expansion, delayed supply and outstanding refunds place real pressure on cash flow and day-to-day operations.
We engaged Compound Fitness in good faith and had hoped this would become a long-term supplier relationship, especially with further expansion planned. Based on our experience to date, we will not be using this company again and would strongly caution other gym owners.
We are still hopeful this matter can be resolved professionally and promptly, and if it is, we will return to provide an update on our experience.
