My husband and I visited Côte last Saturday to meet friends for lunch. They had made a reservation, so we were promptly seated at a pleasant spot. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive, though service was a bit slow. I ordered the Bourguignon, which was described as beef cheek, mushrooms, bacon, carrots, and creamed potatoes. What I received was a very small, lukewarm, and bland portion. My husband had chicken and chips, which was meant to be shared, but it was a small cooked chicken that we had to carve ourselves, along with a small dish of chips. We decided to order a cheeseboard because we were still hungry, but it consisted of just four thin slices of cheese and four small crackers for £12, plus a tiny cube of quince. The overall experience, including a selection of wines, was lovely with friends, but the poor food and high bill (approximately £450) left a bad impression. I would not recommend this restaurant; the beautiful setting comes at a cost that does not reflect the quality of the meal. We ended up buying a large sandwich at the train station on our way home because we were still hungry.
