I placed and paid for an order for 750 litres of kerosene heating oil with CPS Fuels on 2 March 2026 at a confirmed price of £642.21 (81.55p per litre), with delivery scheduled for 18 March.
At the time of ordering, the quote confirmation stated that “all quotes are valid only at the point of quotation and subsequent order.” On this basis and under UK consumer law, I understood that once the order had been placed and confirmed, the quoted price applied.
I have since received an email from the company stating they will not honour the confirmed price due to “market volatility” and are asking customers to either pay a higher price before delivery, cancel the order, or wait until prices drop again. They claim they don't have the oil stored yet will if you cough up the cash.
I rely entirely on heating oil as my home is not connected to the gas grid, so this situation is extremely concerning. When I attempted to contact the company by phone to discuss the issue, the call was disconnected while I was being transferred and the call queue was extremely long.
Overall this has been a very stressful experience, particularly as the order had already been confirmed and paid for. They still have nearly £700 of my money and no resolution.
