Instantly a Loyal Customer for the Future...

From contemplating having steamed crabs shipped across the country to California through consumption of the crabs, this company unexpectedly exceeded my expectations on every level. I began an online order, but wasn't really comfortable completing it without speaking to a live person. I was able to send a message late at night requesting a call, and received a call back the following day. I was concerned about freshness and what the policy was if the crabs fell short. This was the only company of the 3 or 4 I researched that had an option for a pro-rated refund as opposed to replacement or a (most common) coupon for a future purchase. The phone representative mentioned they include a couple of extra crabs in each order just in case, but honestly two crabs in a half bushel order didn't seem like much of an accommodation. I still decided to make the purchase, and added 3 crab mallets and a dozen crab cakes since my pricey shipping cost for UPS 2 day Saturday delivery didn't change by adding them (and we needed the mallets, for sure). After making the purchase about 10 days ahead of time, I was comforted to receive an e-mail alert that my package had shipped the Friday before it was due, and still arriving on Saturday. Delivery had a slight hiccup, but nothing that was Crab Dynasty's fault. UPS sent me an e-mail on the day of delivery, early Saturday afternoon, a day I set aside just to be home to accept the delivery, that my delivery had been rescheduled for Monday. This gave me about 30-40 minutes of a mini panic attack as I frantically tried to reach a person at UPS and offered to meet the driver, they didn't need to re-deliver, wherever the truck was within 2 hours of me to pick up the crabs since the occasion would have passed and by Monday the crabs would no longer be edible. I let them know I was home, didn't hear a knock, and didn't even see the standard "Sorry we missed you" post-it note on the door. Upon checking, they told me the driver had issues entering the gate. Totally unprofessional of the guy...I mean, we give mobile numbers out to these companies all the time so they can contact you with any delivery issues...but then they don't even bother...and when the box is clearly marked "PERISHABLE" all over the place~ Anyway, in the end they said he could re-deliver when he returned for his ground deliveries by end of day (so, no issues at the gate later?!) Shame on UPS, not even an apology, but at least they came through in the end. Fast forward to post-UPS glitch, and I opened the box immediately, at 4:44PM to find everything inside perfect. A styrofoam cooler with two layers of jumbo male crabs packed as tightly as possible along with 3 crab mallets and a dozen crab cakes on top plus a few freeze packs still frozen. Glorious. I couldn't wait until the next day to surprise my grown son with these crabs for his birthday since he and all of us miss so much since moving away from Ocean City, MD. It was beyond perfect. He was in disbelief that I had splurged on this, and so happy. The crabs were still fresh, plenty cold, and so heavy full of crab meat and amazing. Not one light crab. Not one mealy crab. We put them in a make-shift steamer pot, 6 crabs at a time (they were huge) for 10 minutes and he said if he closed his eyes, he was back home in OC having just another one of our crab feasts. I ordered the jumbo size males, heavily seasoned, and they were just perfect in every way. Not like mega extra seasoning piled on like when I steamed them live back home, but just as flavorful and not wasteful with the seasoning which I typically wiped off, anyway to keep my hands clean. Well done, Crab Dynasty. I thought this was a once and done order, but plan to repeat this new annual tradition every year for my son's birthday with no end date unless he moves back east. A half bushel of jumbo crabs, btw, was about 31 crabs. My son who can consume more than the average person ate 10, I managed 5, my DIL is petite, and ate 2 before being full, and my vegan daughter (yes, I said vegan) made an exception and ate one, which she never, ever has done before. So, we had a mega fun crab feast for my son's birthday celebration, and the next day he and his wife had a repeat crab feast! I can't say enough wonderful things about this company and their commitment to a quality product.
