I requested a visit from CSG maintenance to look at my sewage pump that had stopped working. The visit was costed by CSG at £490.80. That has been paid in full. The engineer arrived on time on the 14th April and after examining my sewage pump and making a couple of calls to his office for guidance, advised me that my sewage pump was burnt out due to a capacitors malfunction. He also disconnected the capacitors that he said had caused the pump to burn out. He advised me that I would need a new pump and two new capacitors and I was quoted like for like at the cost of £4,622.06 by CSG office. This distressed me as this was a substantial amount of money.I requested a lower cost and over a two week period CSG were reluctant to help me. They advised if I did not install like for like they would not take responsibility if the replacement pump was inadequate. In despair I requested a second opinion from another company. This engineer attended Friday 28th April 2023 advised me that there was nothing wrong with the pump and that it needed some remedial work and lubrication, he also advised that someone had disconnected the capacitor and he needed to rewire. This he did and my pump is now fully functional with the original pump and capacitors and has been working perfectly since attendance.I requested my £490.80 to be refunded by CSG for the misguidance which resulted in three weeks of worry and stress, with no working pump. This request has resulted in a refusal. on request I received this in a form of explanation on the 5/05/2023 " Our Engineers diagnosis was based on his electrical tests in which showed the pump to be of low insulation resistance and the capacitors out of tolerance. Therefore his diagnosis stands and is accurate, lubrication will not fix nor improve these poor readings. Capacitors have a tolerance on Uf reading which degrades over time, once low enough they will have an impact on the running of the pump. These should be replaced to ensure optimum operation.Insulation resistance values give us an indication of the pumps life electrically, we recommend replacing pumps under 2Mohms which is an industry standard. For context, a brand-new pump will have more then 2000Mohs." This was not advised at the time as I would have taken a different course of action.I have now requested a full report and I am waiting for a reply.Roma Avrili
