I was looking for something flexible I could do on the side from home, and transcription seemed like a good fit. Back in high school, I would volunteer to make subtitles for YouTubers I really liked so transcription already felt familiar to me. That’s how I found Daily Transcription. I started out by taking their transcription course. The course teaches transcription in general, not just how to work for Daily Transcription. There's a bit more formality to it than making YouTube subtitles so that was... interesting. You're going to work for paying clients and you have to deliver their files the exact way they want it. There's a test at the end of the course and you're given feedback by your instructor. The feedback was really helpful and made it clear what I needed to work on and what I missed.After finishing the course and test, I was given the opportunity to apply to work with Daily Transcription. The process was pretty straightforward. I took a basic skills assessment, passed, and then moved on to the transcription test. They let you choose a date through their scheduler and give you their style guide ahead of time so you can prepare properly. I passed and was onboarded about two weeks later.The actual work experience has been really good. There’s no micromanaging. All you have to do is stick to your own end of the deal by meeting the deadlines of your assignments which is usually 24 hours after it's given to you. The pay is fair at $0.75 per audio minute for regular files, with opportunities to earn more on ABS files at $1.25 per audio minute and rush files that pay more at $2 per audio minute, but with shorter deadlines. The work itself is also interesting. They mainly work with entertainment content, so I’ve gotten to work on several reality shows, which keeps things from getting boring. Transcription's not for everyone but if what I described interests you and you could use the extra income, then definitely give it a go.
