I run a communications and social media firm and I've been a Depositphotos customer for years. I appreciated the diversity in the available photos as well as the accuracy of the search function. However, customer service ended up being a major problem. After discovering a series of photos with blackface and Asian caricatures, I attempted to contact Depositphotos and determine their policy for addressing racist content. I received a series of form emails about equal opportunity licensing informing me that Despositphotos only removes "clearly offensive" content. The customer service agents never clarified the criteria for "clearly offensive," only writing the blackface and Asian caricature photos I pointed out were "not considered to be offensive." My clients also contacted Depositphotos and all received the same form emails. We were never able to discuss this issue with anyone beyond the service agents. It's possible this issue could have been clarified and resolved for us, but we never had a way to have a real discussion with the company. I had to cancel my subscription.
