I think there are both pros and cons to this company and their food.
First, the positives: If you want to feed your dog fresh, quality food but don’t have the time, energy, or knowledge to properly prepare it yourself, this is one of the only convenient options. The ingredients appear high quality, and I do believe fresh food is healthier overall. The cost is high (I’m paying close to $300/month with tax), but if it works for your dog, it may be worth it.
That said, it hasn’t been a miracle for us. My dog has allergies, and while I was hopeful about their “28-day improvement” timeline, we didn’t see noticeable changes. That may not be the food’s fault — we’re still figuring out his triggers — but it’s worth mentioning for anyone expecting dramatic results.
A big concern for me is shipping. Thankfully we’ve never received thawed food, but we have had delays. Our last delivery sat with the carrier for 48 hours. That makes me nervous, especially thinking about summer temperatures. For a subscription-based company shipping perishable food every two weeks, delivery timing should be airtight. If you run low and need extra food, they can’t ship off-schedule — the earliest they could send mine was the exact date of my next delivery. That forced me to order extra packs to keep on hand, which increased my upfront cost. For something subscription-based, that lack of flexibility is a bit frustrating.
Their feeding recommendations were also very off for my dog. They suggested 198g/day for my 13lb (ideal weight) 1-year-old Bichon. Within two weeks, he dropped to 11.2lbs. I’ve since adjusted to 285g/day, and he’s now steady between 11.8–12lbs, which my vet confirmed is healthy for him. So if you’re ordering, monitor your dog’s weight closely and be prepared to adjust, which is to be expected with any new dog food. But because we only received so many packs based off of their recommendation and I needed to up his daily grams, we ran out of food before the next shipment. And as I said, they were unable to ship out our next order any earlier. This was very stressful and required some creativity.
The website/account system is pretty basic. You can adjust pack quantity, but anything else requires contacting customer service. Customer service is very friendly and quick to respond (shout out to Mark for being so awesome), but we’ve had multiple small billing/order errors (discount codes not applying correctly, extra packs added incorrectly, pricing not grouped properly). Each issue was fixed when I followed up, but if I hadn’t caught them, I would’ve paid more. That shouldn’t happen repeatedly.
Overall, I think the food quality is good. The logistics and backend systems need improvement. For the price point, I expect more seamless delivery and account management. I’ll likely continue short-term because I do believe fresh food is beneficial and I’m too busy to prep it myself — but if I find a comparable option with smoother operations or slightly lower cost, I would switch.
But I will say my dog loves the food! And I do feel the probiotic powder is high quality too, and really helped with the transition from kibble. I'm happy that a company like this exists to help dog owners feed their pups better food. Can't ever see myself going back to feeding kibble.
