Sony killed the culture of cinephile fanatics that Alamo used so cleverly for so many decades. Today was my first run at using the phone for ordering and what a disaster! First of all, it encourages phone addiction culture, when the movie theater was the LAST place that I could take a break from my phone. From this tone of "use your phone" the invitation to be disrespectful to filmmakers is evident, distracting us from the purpose of spending the money for the in theater engagement. They don't even dim the lights that are no longer needed to view a menu!!! The purpose of a menu by the way is to disclose pricing. The app promotes, which takes your attention away from the screen mind you, a tedious transaction of clicking every single item to discover the cost of each item. Disclaimer, DO NOT gift the gift of cinema via gifts cards anymore because your receiver will have to stand at the kitchen to place their order as their work around for the app that lacks a gift card option. In the vacant theater of maybe 6 of us, every single person scoffed at the Sony line presented on big screen, " sorry for the irony to use your phone. Don't be a jerk"From where I stood Alamo took movie making seriously and the privelege and luxury of the big screen experience for us individuals sacredly. Minimizing the whole industry & experience as a movie lover, I ask who is the jerk now??
