Mevr. van Haarlem,
Don't rent a car through Easyterra

Don't rent a car through Easyterra. They're scammers. We rented a car in Costa Rica with a worry-free label. We thought it would be carefree. We even received a note in three languages that we could give to the rental company upon arrival in case they wanted to push extra insurance on us. We chose a rental company at the airport, so we wouldn't need a shuttle to the countryside, but a quick trip. We had a three-hour drive after arriving, so we wanted to get going as soon as possible. After arriving, Dollar, the rental company, directed us to the parking lot. We waited there for 15 minutes, thinking we were waiting for the car. Nothing could be further from the truth; a shuttle bus showed up and took us to a location outside the airport. It wasn't the agreed-upon date, but what do you do? The car was already paid for, and it was getting late. Once we arrived at the rental location, the insurance hassle began. I politely hand over the note, and the Dollar employee insists that Dutch insurance isn't valid, but hey, it's up to you. We decline all the offers and head out. After a few days, I'm starting to feel uneasy. Turns out we're not properly insured at all. Liability is only covered up to about €120. If we had an accident due to our own fault, it would have cost us a fortune. After contacting EasyTerra, it turns out that "Worry Free" isn't worry free at all; liability isn't covered. It's a scam. We had to call Dollar ourselves, from Costa Rica. Then we had to return the car. EasyTerra's pages literally say "Return at the airport," with the airport address. Dollar then says that's not the intention, so we have to return the car elsewhere. Again, not as agreed. Ultimately, we can return the car at the airport, but it costs an extra $50. We assumed that would be the cost for EasyTerra, but what's the deal? No, sorry, we can't avoid those costs. In fact, I have to call Dollar again, and when I tell them that's not possible with an eSIM, I get a whole lecture about being reachable abroad and being able to call if necessary. Of course, I activate my Dutch SIM card in case of emergency, but who does Julia from EasyTerra think she is?We're going to finish our vacation now, but when we get home, we're really going to get to work on this. Here's a warning: don't fall for this. EasyTerra is a first-class scam.
