Our school trip to Costa Rica became far more than a geography lesson, it felt like stepping straight into the heart of a living, breathing planet. The country’s geology was astonishing: volcanic slopes, ancient lava fields, and landscapes shaped by constant tectonic activity. Walking near the base of Arenal, kayaking on Aranal lake swimming below La Fortuna Waterfall were nothing short of amazing. The wildlife added its own magic. Everywhere you turned, something fascinating appeared like monkeys leaping through the canopy, brilliantly colored birds flashing overhead, and insects so intricate they looked handcrafted. Even the smallest creatures, like leafcutter ants or camouflaged stick insects, became highlights of the adventure. But the true standout of the trip was our guide, David Diaz. His deep knowledge of Costa Rica’s geology, animals, and ecosystems transformed every stop into a story worth remembering. What made him exceptional, though, was how effortlessly he connected with all 42 teenage students. He kept everyone engaged, answered every question with patience, and used his sharp sense of humor to keep the group laughing even on long hikes. His energy and enthusiasm turned a great trip into an outstanding one.Costa Rica was unforgettable but David made it extraordinary.
