I will not be using Europcar ever again in the future. I had a car booked for 12 days in Crete all paid for in advance. Unfortunately our flight was delayed by 2 hours. This meant the office would be closed when we arrived at midnight. I phoned the local office to tell them I would be arriving late hoping they would stay open the extra 30 minutes. They told me that they wouldn’t stay open longer and if I don’t collect before they closed I would be a “no show” and I would lose my booking and all the pre paid money. I asked if i could collect the next morning, and was told no because they would have already cancelled the booking and put me down as now show. They suggested I call customer Services, which would be great but that was closed at 4pm on Sunday. I tried to modify my booking online but that was just trying to charge me £300 more to have a booking 1 day shorter. To avoid the no show fee I had to cancel the booking online. WHY could I not just pick up the car a day later as I had already paid the full amount!! Side note noticed the hertz desk has stayed open late to meet the flight. After starting a customer complaint, Europcar informed me they re within their rights to not refund my deposit as I didn’t give 48 hours notice to cancel. This leads me to think they would have actually kept all my money and put me as a no “show “. Will not be using Europcar again and hope others learn from my experience.
