I live in Las Vegas, a city where we have the misfortune of hosting F1. Because of that, our roads are constantly under construction year-round. During the race, businesses are forced closed because they're within the vicinity of the race track, forcing many people to lose a week's worth of work. Barricades, lights, and stands are set up everywhere, and not only do they look ugly, they block off access to many locations weeks in advance of the race itself. Commutes that should take twenty minutes instead take an hour or more. The money that's supposedly brought into town doesn't ever reach any of the regular people in the city, instead it fluctuates amongst the casino moguls, politicians, and bureaucrats who forced this hellscape upon the rest of us.
