I was one of the early students to join the program. I had been taking classes during high season but would forget a lot over low season when I’d be back in Canada, so I wasn’t making much real progress. After my husband passed away, I decided to stay in Mexico permanently. Through volunteering at a local language school, I had made a small group of Mexican friends. Being invited to their parties was fun but not being able to get involved in conversations was very frustrating. However, it was also a huge incentive to learn more and just at the right time, along came Peter and Fast Conversational Spanish! It was perfect for me at that time and it has evolved into a truly excellent program since then. It is very well organized and with classes being via Zoom, you can be anywhere. Peter encourages students to work through the curriculum step by step, with heavy (and very sensible) emphasis on learning verbs. Peter & the other teachers/coaches are incredibly supportive and helpful, regardless of what level you’re at. They are all patient, interesting people with a variety of backgrounds and the classes are fun! My Spanish has taken great leaps since I started the program. With Peter and the other coaches’ encouragement, I got over my “feeling like an idiot” anxiety (which was huge) and just started to go for it. I KNOW I make mistakes, but I have received many compliments on my pronunciation and general use of the language, even from total strangers. I’m not yet at the level of “conversational” that I would like to be but I can certainly carry on basic, even fairly lengthy conversations with people, provided that they speak slowly. I now feel comfortable going anywhere, regardless of whether English is available and I’ve visited several different towns and cities in Mexico on my own. My Mexican friends are probably now my closest friends in Mexico and that has been life-changing.
