I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for all that Guru Harsh Sir and all Mentors have done for me in this great Flute Foundation course (FFC) journey of flute learning. The overall course is designed in highly structured manner, considers no or little past knowledge of flute or music to keep everyone in comfortable start, the curriculum designed to gradually introduce new concepts, clear learning objectives, starting with the basics and moving towards more advanced topics with sufficient practice highly motivating, challenging and engaging with very constructive, timely feedback. The way Harsh Dave sir is able to explain and guide is amazing. He is so patient and makes sure that one is able to understand and proceed. It was an amazing experience for me and I feel so happy to learn to play the flute now. A long journey still and exited to learn more from him.
I have never played any music instrument in my over 67 years of life. I came across Harsh ji's reel on Instagram, in which he says that even if a person was playing the flute for the first time, he or she would be able to play some simple songs in 3 months time. I was intrigued enough to attend Harsh ji's live master class.Harsh ji in his master class defined the learning objectives clearly. The three months were broken into week-wise learning modules and (to put it in management terms) SMART goals. I can say with confidence, that after the master class, each person who joined Flute Gandharva's knew what their progress could be in their learning journey. And, so began the classes. Harsh ji always conducts them. Right from explaining the basics of music theory, to the intrinsic logic of each composition, and breaking down the learning process to each line, and further to each fragment of each line, he makes it very easy to grasp.The Flute Gandharvas mentor team then takes over to extend support to the learner. Harsh ji has trained the mentors so well that each of the mentors offer tremendous reinforcement to the swara practice, alankar or composition that Harsh ji has taught in his session. I began by making shrill noises on the flute. I practiced for at least 40-45 minutes each day, and on some days for more time (reminder: I have never played any kind of music instrument before. Also, despite not being a smoker, I have a fair amount of lung damage and hence needed more practice). At the end of each week, however, I was able to discern my own improvement. And as Harsh ji, promised, I am now able to play a few simple songs, and a few Hindustani classical compositions to taal. My experience was so fulfilling that I am continuing my music journey with Flute Gandharvas, under Harsh ji’s tutelage. One unique feature: the Flute Gandharvas web site and phone app, that is open to learners. On the web site / app:1. Learners can post videos of his/her playing the flute to obtain feedback. The feedback rates the learner on swara clarity, notation and taal, so that one knows what to improve on. 2. There is a treasure trove of learning resources. It literally has hundreds of videos, to help a learner to practice swaras, alankars, playing with taal, improving clarity, light music with notations and many more.3. Learners can connect to a community of learners, at various stages of learning, from whom we can learn and also derive encouragement in our own journey.To every music enthusiast out there, who may exhibit talent or feel that they do not have any: my message is simple.
