I grew up around Arabic, specifically Lebanese dialect, and understood way more than I could speak. Lot’s of other Arabic courses or Apps I tried teach formal Arabic, which was not really relevant to me. I’m so grateful that I found this Lingua Verna course! The teachers and other students make for a really comfortable and fun learning environment. The course is smartly structured, but also flexible. I’m held accountable for doing the work, which I need! I’m in Level 2 now and can read, write and say essential things. I highly recommend Lingua Verna. It’s been the push I needed to finally learn this beautiful language that is so central to my life.
This program is fantastic! It's exactly what I was looking for, not only to start building on the little Arabic I knew already but also to feel more comfortable speaking to others. The lessons are clear, organized and not overwhelming. The conversation groups allow you to practice with others who are also learning. Before taking the first level, I didnt know how to read arabic, 3 weeks later and I could. Alex and the team do an amazing job explaining all the rules and different soundings of the letters as well. The way the whole program is put together just makes sense. I'd recommend anyone who is interested in learning levantine arabic at all - even if its only at a basic level - to sign up for the first level. I wish I signed up years ago!
Learning Arabic is incredibly important to me because I’ve always wanted to communicate freely with my grandma and my dad in their native tongue. Since joining this program I’ve been understanding more and more Arabic everyday. One of my favorite parts of the program is being able to practice in small groups weekly. I also appreciate the fact that the vocab introduced every week is relevant to everyday life, so I am able to communicate/practice with my family in an organic way. I would definitely recommend Lingua Verna to anyone who has tried and struggled with other programs in the past.
This programme is an introductory programme for spoken Levantine Arabic. As I had already unsuccessfully tried a couple of other methods to learn Fusha Arabic I was rather skeptic about Lingua Verna"s claim to get their students speaking in a short amount of time.
Now, a couple of months later, I only regret that I did not join this programme sooner. I could have spared myself so much trouble and self doubt.
If you want to learn Arabic and are on the fence about whether to join this programme:
Do yourself a favour and go for it!
Lingua verna is a small group of native teachers who are not only friendly and funny but also polyglots and well aware of the science behind language learning.
The material you get is extensive and incredibly well produced. You could perfectly well study on your own with all the videos and exercises you are given.
Part of learning a new language is to overcome the stress and embarrassment when you are urged to speak.
Going from passive language aquisition to actual output, is, where many students get stuck.
Lingua Verna assigns you to a weekly practice group where you can overcome your shyness and practice your conversation skills in a safe and warm surrounding.
DL;DR:
Lingua verna covers all the bases, they get you talking in very short time and, for what you get, the price is really a steal.
I'm only a couple of weeks into Arabic Foundations 1, but I'm really impressed by how well put-together the programme is. There's a lot to digest, but it's very clearly structured and the content is well-paced .The first few weeks has a lot of video content to bring everyone up to speed with the letters. The team were almost apologetic about this in the kick-off session, but it's great! It's so helpful to be able to rewatch it to make sure it's sunk in, and the ability to access the videos (and do the flashcards) on the mobile app is really helpful. The teachers are all really enthusiastic and patient, too.I'm looking forward to continuing the course, and - having started as a complete beginner - I feel like if I only come away with half of what I'm taught, it'll have been great value.
This program has worked well for me (better than previous approaches I have used for a few years), due to the teaching skills of the instructors in explaining the relationship between conversational realities of regional variation and the grammatical rules, the latter simplified from formal language but important for clarity even in everyday communication.
