Corruption at Its FinestOnce again – and sadly, not surprisingly – we experienced Air Cairo attempting to charge us (wrongfully, I might add) for extra baggage that was already purchased and paid for.At the check-in counter in Hurghada Airport, your staff suddenly could not see the extra suitcase we had with us, even though we presented a separate document from Sunweb clearly confirming that we had bought and paid for this additional baggage. It’s worth noting that during our departure from Copenhagen, Air Cairo had no issues whatsoever seeing the same extra baggage. But in Hurghada, the exact same “issues” reappear every single time. What makes this even more absurd is that your staff member at the counter revealed himself by saying:“Oh, I see there’s diving equipment… then it will be €101 instead of €90.”In other words: he could clearly see the extra baggage – but we were not allowed to bring it unless we paid again for something already paid for. There are only a few words for this: fraud, corruption, or deliberate deception. This is not a one-off incident. It is a persistent problem with Air Cairo in Egypt, no matter how thoroughly you prepare at home with every piece of documentation possible.
