I had an extremely disappointing experience with Flywire while trying to pay my university fees.
I followed all the instructions carefully and made the payment through my partner’s bank, ensuring that the correct reference ID was included. However, even after waiting for two weeks, the payment was still not reflected in my university account.
When I contacted Flywire support, I was repeatedly told that they had not received the money and that I must have made a mistake — which was not the case. I even provided them with the official bank deposit receipt as proof of payment, but this still did not help. Despite clear evidence, they continued to deny receiving the funds.
I then contacted the bank, and they confirmed that the money had successfully reached the destination bank. Even after sharing this information, Flywire continued to insist that the funds were not with them.
The situation became extremely stressful, especially as my university fee deadline was approaching. Because Flywire could not locate the funds, I was forced to make a second payment of the same amount directly to my university to avoid missing my deadline. This was a significant financial burden, as a large amount of money was already stuck with Flywire at the time.
The entire experience was incredibly stressful and honestly quite traumatising. I was under constant anxiety, not knowing where my money was and whether it would affect my enrolment.
What made things worse was the customer service. Not only was there no real help provided, but one of the support representatives was rude and even raised their voice during the call. That was completely unacceptable.
After being told to initiate a payment trace (which takes around 15 days), I suddenly received an email from Flywire saying they had located the exact amount on their end and asking if I wanted a refund. This was shocking, especially after they had repeatedly told me the funds were not in their accounts.
Overall, I am extremely disappointed with how this situation was handled — from incorrect information to poor communication and unprofessional customer service. I would not recommend using Flywire based on this experience.
