Don't Trust the Warranty based on the AA name.

I purchased a second hand car from an AA approved garage and paid to extend the AA warranty. The timing chain failed the day after I collected the car. I have made a claim but WMS (the company who administer the warranty) seem to be just trying to avoid accepting it. The timing chain is covered, I have confirmation from an independent garage that the timing chain has failed and a quote for repairing it. They are now asking for evidence of why it failed. Obviously a garage mechanic can't confirm that and it isn't required by the policy. They haven't taken up my invitation to inspect it themselves. I only had the car for one day and so it was obviously nothing that I did. It would appear that the warranty is worthless or it is going to take a lot of arguing to make a claim. As an AA member I thought I could trust their name but obviously you can't.Also don't be fooled by their reply below offering to help. It is a stock answer to the bad reviews. Note the good reviews are generally from garages who earn money from the scheme or people who haven’t had a serious problem with the car. A final update. They have said “The AA Protect Essential for reference does not cover inherent faults (faults which were on the vehicle prior to purchase) nor does it cover any faults as a result of wear and tear.” On that basis they can reject any claim. They will say it was faulty when our approved garage sold it to you or it has become faulty which must be from wear and tear. The warranty is a con. It’s just a gimmick to give you confidence and the garage more money. Note that when I said I wanted to cancel it they said I have to go back to the garage. Obviously the garage get the money for it. The Terms, that you only get to see after you have paid for it, state clearly that it is not legally an insurance policy so you don’t get the financial ombudsman or financial services protection.
