I had over £200 taken without warning for a “Gold membership renewal” that I did not authorise.My Craftsy account showed auto-renew turned OFF, and my membership was already paid and valid until 25 December 2025. Despite this, Craftsy took the money early, with no renewal notice, via an old PayPal billing agreement.After the payment, Craftsy’s system simply generated an order to make it look like a legitimate purchase — even though I did not place one.PayPal refused to help on the basis that a billing agreement existed at some point, which is extremely concerning when auto-renew is disabled on the merchant’s own site. I have had to escalate this to my bank under the Direct Debit Guarantee.This experience has seriously damaged my trust. Customers should not have to rely on their bank to recover money taken without clear consent. Please check your PayPal automatic payments very carefully if you use Craftsy.
