In July, we booked a motorhome for 6 people to do a 10-day road trip around Scotland, starting from Edinburgh, from August 16 to 26.We paid the full amount in the two installments indicated by the website, and just three days before the rental was due to begin, the motorhome owner cancelled the booking, claiming the vehicle was damaged. Up to this point, I could be more or less understanding, even though no proof was provided, since if the vehicle is damaged, it's reasonable to cancel the reservation.GoBoony offered us an alternative in a different location (about 40 miles away) at a higher price due to the short notice. I immediately contacted GoBoony support requesting that they cover the price difference (among the fees paid during the booking, there's a GoBoony service fee, in our case around £350). At the same time, I sent a booking request to the owner of the alternative motorhome while waiting for customer service to resolve our issue (we were just three days away from starting the road trip and were already in the city visiting, so we had no flexibility). The owner didn’t respond, and we started searching online for other options. The result: no availability for 6-person motorhomes during our dates.I should be able to thank here the help we received from other websites that, although they had no availability, provided us with phone numbers of agencies and private owners to help save our trip, especially Ryan from Bonnie Motorhome. We eventually decided to book a vehicle available in another location and travel there by train (Inverness). This added extra transport costs and forced us to alter our entire travel plan and previous campsite reservations. Fortunately, the new motorhome owner responded quickly and accepted our booking for the same dates (more expensive than the original one, of course), but it was either that or cancel our holiday. On August 19 (six days after contacting them, and 3 days after the new booking was completed), GoBoony replied saying they couldn’t proceed with our compensation request and even boasted that we had managed to make another booking thanks to their platform. Well yes, we did, after spending nights in the hotel searching for alternatives and making calls during the day when we should have been enjoying Edinburgh or Glasgow. In short, we incurred an extra cost of around £1,000, including trains, campsite cancellations, new bookings, and the higher price of the motorhome.I believe that if I make a booking through a platform that connects private owners with customers, and the reservation is cancelled for reasons beyond the customer’s control, the owner or the platform should provide a real solution without increasing the price. That’s what service fees and insurance are for.So I’m sorry, but never again GoBoony, I cannot recommend it.
