I used Goodleap as a loan servicer for some HVAC work in May based on a recommendation from the HVAC company that did my work while waiting on a car accident settlement to come in. I used them entirely on the basis that there would be no additional fees for a complete early payoff during the loan's promotional period, which they confirmed on the phone and in an email prior to me taking out the loan, and I paid the loan off in full in June. After paying off the loan, I confirmed with Goodleap on the phone that the loan was paid off and that I would not owe any additional sum of money, and sent them an email asking them to close the account. All seemed to be well until December 2024 a few days ago when I received a call from a Goodleap representative asking if I was happy with the HVAC work and with a "reminder that your first loan payment is due soon!" I told the operator I'd paid it off and closed the account in June, to which the guy said "wait what? I'm not seeing that!" and then after getting the runaround from several representatives it turns out that nobody had ever marked my account closed or my loan paid off as I'd requested; they then turned around and said I owed a "UCC Filing Fee" from the county I live in to close the account, but refused to verify where they got the information for the quantity owed, an explanation for why everything in June had gone down the way it had, and they told me that since in my original recorded line in June that I hadn't carefully phrased my line of inquiry regarding my account being closed like a lawyer to make it ironbound they would not accept responsibility for the error and that I still owed the fee. At no point have I spoken to a representative that doesn't seem extremely willing to lie to me, deflect from Goodleap's own errors, and deflect from every salient point I bring up. These guys are complete scum.
