I entered GovTech’s VIP circle with a robust foundation already in place. Having worked in cybersecurity since early 2021, I currently serve as an Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) for the Department of War. My credentials include a Top Secret (SCI) with Full Scope Poly, three industry certifications, a Master’s in Cybersecurity, and I am currently pursuing my Doctorate at Marymount University.Any significant professional progress I’ve made happened before I joined the VIP circle. Much of my current work and trajectory was already "in the works long before I signed up. I joined primarily out of curiosity to see what the GovTech ecosystem was all about. Overall, my experience has been very positive:• The Weekly Calls: These are the highlight. There is immense value in hearing folks share their real-world ideas and experiences navigating the current cybersecurity job market.• Tools & Resources: The program provides a solid suite of resources that are genuinely useful for those looking to sharpen their edge or break into specific niches. If you are looking for a community of practice where you can exchange ideas and access a curated library of resources, GovTech is excellent. It’s a great "pulse check" on the industry. However, if you are already a high-cleared, advanced-degree professional, view this as a networking and supplemental tool rather than a foundational one. It’s a great place to stay sharp, even if you’ve already carved out your path.
