I was widowed in early June 2022. My husband was American and back in America when he was killed in a road accident. I received a pension cheque from a government agency over there. Depositing this cheque, I had to drive to Maroochydore (Qld), two hours south of where I live, as my branch office is now closed. I deposited the cheque on the 7th of November, 2022. I was told it would take four business weeks for it to clear. It did not. Checking The Great Southern Bank online about international cheque deposits, it said it takes six weeks. No cheque was deposited. Next I phoned the bank and received a return call from the bank manager. She was very nice and informed me that it could take up to eight weeks?? Well, the eight weeks are up, and as of the 9th of January, I still do not have my money. I phoned the Maroochydore office again today. The lady who answered informed me that the clearance of the cheque depended on the American bank it came from.. and that it could take more time??? I lived and worked as a professional on the east coast of the U.S.A., and I know that they are on the mark with how they do business. So, I do not believe this. I have since discovered that Bendigo bank also accepts international cheques for deposit, and they have assured me they take twenty-eight business days for the money to be in my account. I expect another cheque and will not deposit this one into G.S. bank. How can one bank give a better service than another bank????
