We visited the Anchor near Pyrford Lock just before Christmas and noticed it was fairly quiet for the season. I think I understand why. While the staff are friendly and the food consistently good, their pricing has become quite steep, particularly for wine. My wife ordered a large Pinot, which cost £11.50! With the added 12.5% tip, that brings it to nearly £13 for what should be an affordable glass of wine. They currently have a promotion for 30% off the total bill from Monday to Thursday. At that rate, I would definitely recommend it, but unfortunately, I won't be able to return at full price. However, it is a lovely pub.

My daughter chose a local pub to hold a wake for my husband, and I can honestly say they were absolutely fantastic. The booking process was easy, and the food choices were excellent. Upon arrival, we found a dedicated space available for us. The staff served the food, which was amazing! We were impressed that they had separate areas for gluten-free options. All our guests (there were 40 of us) remarked on the quality and variety of the food. The venue itself was clean and had a lovely ambiance. The staff contributed significantly to making this a true celebration of my wonderful husband’s life. I was so impressed that I wrote a letter of thanks to the manager and staff the next day. I can thoroughly recommend this venue to anyone in a similar situation. I had never been here before, but I will certainly return under happier circumstances. Full marks to the team.
I would advise against ordering the Christmas pudding and brandy butter. The pudding was only 2cm high and 5cm in diameter, costing £8.50 each. We complained, and they said the head office was responsible and offered a refund. This experience was utterly disgraceful, and the reputation of the establishment has been damaged. Would anyone in a leadership position serve such a dessert to their family? It was a disappointing experience.
My booking experience was complicated and frustrating. I discovered the phone line was out of order, which seemed unbelievable. I had to rely on several emails for communication, which were not answered promptly. I visited the restaurant a week prior to discuss menu choices. The most disappointing part was that despite pre-ordering meals for our group, one person didn’t receive their food at all! We were offered desserts as compensation, but this hardly made up for the disappointment I felt after organizing the evening. While I accepted the apology and discount, I still feel let down and won’t be recommending or returning.
This was a hugely disappointing meal at a local pub. If I could give 0 stars, I would! We revisited this establishment for a family celebration, but it turned out to be a letdown. The starters were passable, but the main meals were cold, poorly presented, and tasted as though they had been improperly reheated. One family member forced himself to eat, but the rest of us couldn’t. What should have been a joyful celebration turned into a disappointing experience. I reached out to the manager for feedback, but received no acknowledgment. This once-loved local has lost its charm and quality, and I would not recommend it for dining.
My husband and I enjoyed a lovely lunch at a local venue. It was one of the nicest meals we've had in a long time. The service was fantastic, and the food was excellent. The staff made us feel very welcome, and we will definitely be returning soon.
