First, I am not a lawyer. This is not legal advice. You should contact a lawyer if you seek legal advice. I have reached out to one regarding Medicaid fraud, and am looking into one for a personal suit regarding fraudulent billing. None of this information contains advice from a lawyer. I simply needed a prescription refill. I'm in the process of changing primary care doctors and needed a regular medication refilled. It is not controlled and serves one specific purpose only; not abusable. I chose Helix Medical because they advertise they accept insurance and it was the first link on Google.I filled out the information, including the dosage I take and the reason I take it. I submitted it and waited. A while later I got an email that my prescription had been filled. I logged into HelixVM and saw the diagnosis was exactly for what I told them I was taking the medication for. There was a treatment plan instructing me to take the medication as prescribed (which I provided the dosages), an order for lab work, and a referral to a specialist. I understand that some of it is required to be compliant, but I had no intention to continue or establish care with them.Something about it felt off though. So I searched and found these TrustPilot reviews. My heart sank. I was worried about becoming another story here. So I contacted them (helixcares.com is the same company, and they have a contact form). I told them I had read reviews and while I wasn't accusing them of anything because I didn't know each person's story, I didn't want to be a victim and requested that they remove the payment information from their records. I received an automated respond within a couple days, notifying me that my payment information had been removed. On Dec. 31, 2024, I received a notice of a statement from Helix Medical. When I logged in, I saw that there were 2x $500 charges (one for urgent care and one generic), and a $3.75 processing fee, dated Dec 7. On Dec 16, my insurance paid $23.76. On Dec 17, they added a "discount" of a $925 payment, leaving a remaining balance of $54.99.On Jan 3, 2025, they charged my credit card for that $54.99. The same payment information they confirmed to have removed from their system. As of today (Jan 17), the payment has not been listed in my account and it still shows I have a balance of $54.99.I happen to be on state Medicaid. My insurance is full coverage. I had contacted my insurance to get information about how much they tried to bill my insurance for. My insurance immediately told me that they can't do what they did. It's called "inappropriate billing". When they billed my insurance and accepted a payment from my insurance, they forfeit their ability to collect any payment from me. Add that on to the other things, and there's a pretty solid case of fraud here.I can see that I'm not the only one. I highly suggest that anyone with insurance that has been billed, report this company and their practices to your insurance. If you were billed and do not have copays with your insurance, then they inappropriately billed you. Anyone whose insurance was billed by this company should be able to file a grievance against them.If class action suit gets going, I'll be sure to mention these reviews to the attorneys to contact everyone here that has left a review, as I'm sure that each one of you also has evidence of your statements and any charges they put against your payment methods. This company needs to be shut down ASAP.Be sure to file a grievance with your insurance carriers. For charges you've been charged, you may want to contact your financial institutions and see if you can open a dispute for fraud, and provide all of this information to them. Hopefully we can get the attention necessary to stop this.
