This firm became my mother's executors having bought the practice of a retired solicitor who was a trusted family friend. The estate was of relatively low value consisting of only five principal assets and I suuplied details including account numbers for all five. There was no property to sell and no Inheritance Tax to pay. Despite the simplicity of the work involved their first attempt at a final statement completely omitted one of the aforementioned assets: eventually it took over two years to finalise the estate and over £9,000 was charged, including VAT.I complained to the Solicitors Regulation Authority who were not interested. I then complained to the Legal Ombudsman. After two years I was awarded a token amount of compensation for 'poor service'.The lessons to be learned from my dreadful experience are: DO NOT allow this firm to become your Executors and insist they renounce if you are the principal beneficiary of a family member's or friend's estate, and, Do NOT expect any help from the institutions that are supposed to police the solicitors' "profession".
