HeyTutor promised a 100% satisfaction guarantee when I first spoke to them, but continue to make excuses for not processing my refund. The vigor with which this company lies, twists its words and throws up smoke/stink bombs to try to distort reality is really astounding. The Director of Sales got me to commit thousands of dollars more than I initially proposed, by saying he needed it in order to find the best tutors, and promising that it was fully refundable if the student was not satisfied for *any reason* after the initial tutoring. It did not work out, but when I requested a refund, I immediately started getting the runaround. At one point, HeyTutor's Operations Director *explicitly* told me she needed me to first say there was nothing wrong with their tutors. I tried to comply by saying that the tutors simply "weren't a good fit." I also offered to pay for the initial 2 hours of tutoring as a compromise. I continued to get the runaround. My guess is they would try to get me to say there was nothing wrong with the tutors, then later claim this as grounds for refusing a refund. In fact, we could not work with the first tutor because we couldn't find a mutually agreeable time slot. The second came on the wrong day and time, and then seemed bored and uninterested during the session. Finally, since it was so far past the "less than a week" that HeyTutor had promised it would take to find the first tutor, we had already hired other excellent tutors and no longer needed their services. There is a similar complaint against HeyTutor with the Better Business Bureau in October 2018 -- it describes a mother who needed SAT tutoring for her child. She had to dispute the charge with her credit card company, which apparently investigated and cancelled HeyTutor's charge. This mom said she did not believe HeyTutor would have processed the refund on their own. Filing a dispute with the credit card company seems like the best option at this point. To those who may be in the same situation, you have 60 days after the credit card statement that lists the charge. Even beyond that, the credit company may try to help you out. Good luck...
