Ostensibly a legitimate service that advertises itself as a one-stop shop for editing, formatting, and publishing. The fee is competitive and advertises a complete list of included services. Customer reviews, including Trust Pilot, all indicate that it’s a good investment.
Here’s the problem: once you’ve paid your $400, or whatever “special rate” they are advertising, and have your work ready to publish, they hit you with an additional $500 fee for copyright services. These services are NOT necessary for publishing but are considered “integral,” despite their own admission that it is only for “safety.”
These are classic bait-and-switch tactics worthy of a used car sales lot. And if you refuse, you are on your own. It doesn’t matter that they made written promises or that the service is not "integral" to publishing, as they claim. They wait until the customer has a finished product and then, conveniently, explain that they can’t proceed without additional money.
Incidentally, I plan to file a formal complaint with the Texas AG. It’s not okay to advertise services, make promises, and then demand more money to complete the project. (And I have written proof and a chain of emails.)
