Poor service

Last October I approached Holborn & Adams to ask if they could represent me, to which they agreed and I was presented with three packages ranging from £10,000, up to £40,000. Due to my personal financial state at the time, I opted for the £10,000 package. I was a bit surprised that I was asked to the full amount up front and was told that the money would not be reimbursed if I chose to end my contract with them early. This meant that I had no choice but to carry on using them even when I started realising halfway through that I had not made a great choice in representation. As my Court date drew closer, I was understandably growing more anxious especially since I was not receiving any updates from them. I constantly had to contact them for updates and I felt like I had to remind them to do adequately prepare for my case (an example: I ended up collecting my Interview Disk from the Police Station and posting it recorded delivery to them!) In court, I was totally let down by the Barrister Holborn and Adams assigned to me. I personally didn’t feel like I was being defended at all and my support network of my friends and family who were present with my that day echoed the same sentiments. Two of my four key witnesses were not called, even though they were told to come to Court. It transpired that one of these witnesses was not on Court list as Holborn & Adams neglected to inform the Court of them. As a result, their statement was not allowed. When I went to put in my Not Guilty plea, I was told that Andrew Ford would be attending Court on that day. Unfortunately, he was a no-show! On the second occasion, I was informed that the Junior Solicitor would attend, but again, he was a no-show. Instead, they sent a Paralegal secretary. Unsurprisingly, I lost my case. I fed back to Holborn & Adams to let them know that I was very unhappy with their service and to be honest, I felt quite intimated by them. What I did find quite startling though was their offer for a “better Barrister” because my case was a “very difficult case”. An assessment that I wished they made at the start rather than when it was all over!I’m not wishing to find myself in such a situation again, however, this is one firm that I would definitely steer clear of in the future.
